The season opener against one of the best teams from LY. We had a good start but were soon defending corner after corner for about 10 mins. A mistake by Rob saw them given a penalty for a handball which the striker smashed way over the bar. A real let off.
Ayo Alex and Adam worked well on the counter to create some chances and Adam was unlucky not to open the scoring with a great right foot shot just before half time. 0-0 at half time was a fair result the boys were working really hard.
2nd half we lost our shape a little and they went 1-0 up with a great right foot shot. A few minutes later and we were caught not closing down a shot which was saved but the rebound was tapped in 2-0. Ayo & Alex continued to create havoc with pace and skill and Alex was clean through on the keeper when the linesman decided he was off side despite the fact he ran from his own half.
5 mins later & the same thing happened again and the same flag this time the ref waved play on and Alex calmly put the ball in the top corner. 2-1 both teams had chances to score again & the best was a shot from Meopham that hit one post and rebounded out right across the goal for a Jake to catch.
Parents MoM was Jake on his competititve debut & Adam was coaches MoM well done to them both.
Final score was 2-1 which was a fair result and a great improvement on last season.
Lessons learned better& fitness and keeping our formation late in the game are vital.
